BC Association of Farmers Markets

The BC Association of Farmers' Markets provides several workshops that markets & vendors can get involved in, such as MarketSafe - a food safety training program for farmers & producers who make, bake or grow products to sell at local farmers' markets, farm gates or other temporary food markets; Market Manager & Board of Governance Training - for market managers and boards of directors of small, medium or large markets, whether new or experienced; as well as Chef Friendly Farmer's Market Program - a co-operative marketing initiative that facilitates business relationships between BC farmers' markets, vendors and chefs.

Edible Garden Project

The Edible Garden Project is working to create a network of north shore communities where locally grown food can be produced and distributed to organizations that will provide food to low-income individuals, and families. The EGP creates a network between homeowners with food gardens who want to donate a portion of their harvest, and includes indiviudals with underutilized garden space who would like to participate by allowing the EGP to cultivate their land for growing food. The EGP also provides opportunities for volunteers who want to contribute to growing, sharing, and learning about locally produced food.

Ethical Kitchen

The Ethical Kitchen hosts a nutritional school with textbooks, informative, and creative classes including the foundations of traditional cooking. Journey through an array of interesting courses and get equipped for a lifetime of wellness with proper nutrition and household skills. Learn about basic herbal medicine and how to detox your home! Feast of Fields

Feast of Fields is a gourmet wandering harvest festival and annual fundraiser organized by FarmFolk/CityFolk. With a wine glass and linen napkin in hand, you can taste the very best of BC from chefs, vintners, brewers, farmers, and food artisans from across the province. Connections are made between producers and chefs, food producers and consumers, and farm folks and city folks. These connections provide an increased awareness of and appreciation for local food and agriculture. Feast of Fields is a gastronomic journey towards a sustainable, local food system. Events take place in the Lower Mainland, Okanagan and Vancouver Island.

Foxglove Farm, Saltspring Island

The Centre for Arts, Ecology & Agriculture was established to demonstrate & interpret the vital connections between farming, land stewardship, food, the arts & community well being. Programs include 1-5 day retreats & workshops bringing well-known writers, artists, musicians, foresters, farmers & ecologists to share their knowledge.  Programs include summer camps for kids, guided tours, school programs, culinary events, and an annual open house with tours, music and food.

Friends of the UBC Farm

UBC Farm is a student-driven initiative where students, faculty, staff, and the local community have been working together to create a place where anyone can come to learn, live and value the connection between land, food and community.

GardenSmart

Join GardenSmart, the North Shore Recycling Program, the Edible Garden Project and the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre for their spring, summer and autumn workshops. Registration is $5, space is limited. Pre-register by phone.

Green Bricks Education Society

The Green Bricks Education Society involves BC youth in sustainable land use and development through curriculum-linked outreach programs. Through classroom workshops, Green Bricks engages secondary school students to understand the importance, and benefits of sustainable building issues in their schools and communities, and allows students to search for practical solutions for green building design and maintenance, while providing the skills to work towards a more sustainable future.

Heart Gardens

Heart Gardens is a community permaculture demonstration site in Roberts Creek, British Columbia. They are a living classroom environment designed to teach about nature and ecology, encouraging people to have active relationships with plants and the planet.

Means of Production

Means of Production Garden Artists Raw Resource Collective is managed by the Environmental Youth Alliance (EYA) as a teaching model for youth training in fiber arts as well as overall horticulture and agriculture.  In the past, youth interns, volunteers and community members have attended trainings and work days on herbal medicine making and fruit tree pruning among other things.

The Sustainable Living Arts School is a rural and urban learning network that emphasizes bringing local folks, local knowledge and local resources together for hands-on learning experiences.
